Kazdin Parent Management Training (PMT)
PMT is parent based treatment that has been shown to be effective in reducing oppositional, aggressive, and antisocial behavior in children and adolescents ages 2-15. PMT typically lasts 4-6 months of weekly sessions.
PMT is a structured program that teaches parents how to:
Set clear expectations for behavior
Use positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors
Ignore or redirect unwanted behaviors
Use consistent discipline techniques
Communicate effectively with their child
There are many benefits to PMT, including:
Reduced oppositional, aggressive, and antisocial behavior in children
Improved parent-child relationships
Increased parental confidence and competence
Reduced stress for parents
What can parents expect during PMT?
During PMT, parents will learn about the principles of behavior modification and how to apply these principles to their own child's behavior. They will also practice implementing these principles in role-playing exercises. The child may come to a few sessions but most of the sessions will be aimed at parents only.
